About

Bio

Chad Crummel is currently a Percussionist in the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. and is the former Principal Percussionist of the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Britt Festival Orchestra in Jacksonville, Oregon. From 2013-2016 Chad lived in Japan and was Co-Principal Percussion/Timpani member of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra. Chad has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Louisville Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Grand Rapids Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, Des Moines Metro Opera, Huntsville Symphony, Nagoya Philharmonic, San Antonio Symphony, New World Symphony, and performed under the baton of such conductors as Sir Neville Marriner, Manfred Honeck, Yutaka Sado, Vasily Petrenko, Leonard Slatkin, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Robert Spano, Teddy Abrams, and Keith Lockhart. 


A native of Texas, Chad received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He continued his studies at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and later received his Master of Music degree from Duquesne University. He was named the winner of the 2016 Modern Snare Drum Competition and had previously placed third at the same competition in 2013. In 2011 Chad won the Kerope Zildjian Scholarship Competition and has attended the Aspen Music Festival and the Festival of Contemporary Music at Tanglewood. 


Chad was a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from 2008 to 2009 and was an active music educator in the Austin, Texas area. Including working as a percussion instructor and front ensemble tech at Dripping Springs High School when they were named Texas 4A Marching Band State Champions.
